hemostasis is the stoppage of bleeding (differs from homeostasis)
mechnisms of hemostasis: 1- vascular spasm: the blood vessel wall contracts immedaitely after rupture due to nervous reflex , local myogenic contraction , and the effect of serotonin released from aggregated blood platelets . 2- the formatiom of platelet plug: following injury , collagen fibers at the end of the vessel wall have a very special role in platelets adhesion . platelets adhere to each other and form hemostatic plug. adhesion diphosphate (ADP) in the primary chemical agent released from blood platelets and hemolysed red cells responsible for platelets aggregation . 3- blood coagulation: it is the conversion of soluble fibrinogen into insoluble meshwork of fibrin , threads entrapping blood cells and plasma .
